Bridging Science and Humanity

Founded in 2014, the Thoreau Lab for Global Health (TLGH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research organization with a three-pronged mission:
  • Accelerating development of innovative treatments for neglected global health issues.
  • Bridging the gap between scientific discovery and patient care delivery.
  • Promoting health equity in global healthcare.
Continuing the legacy of Das Lab (previously at the Forsyth Institute, Harvard University), TLGH creates a collaborative hub. Inspired by Henry David Thoreau's philosophy of integrated science, TLGH fosters a collaborative environment where researchers, scientists, medical professionals, and social workers unite diverse fields like biomedical science, experimental therapeutics, and medical humanities.
This approach aims to unlock groundbreaking advancements in global healthcare. TLGH leverages novel research concepts like biological altruism and biosocial medicine to address complex global health challenges. The organization also prioritizes training the next generation of global health leaders.
In recent times, TLGH boasts successful collaborations with renowned institutions:
  • Stanford University, CA, USA
  • Forsyth Institute (Harvard University affiliated), MA, USA
  • Harvard School of Dental Medicine, MA, USA
  • University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Internationally TLGH also fosters strong ties with Indian institutes through its sister lab, KaviKrishna Laboratory, India, including:
  • Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi
  • AIIMS New Delhi
  • IIT Guwahati, Assam
  • Guwahati University, Assam
TLGH operates from two campuses:
  • M2D2, University of Massachusetts Lowell, MA (Biomedical Science & Community Medicine & Public Health)
  • Red Rail Farm, Walden Pond Campus, Lincoln, MA (Medical Humanities)
